CEDO is a wonderful place to learn about Rocky Point’s fascinating desert-meets-sea ecosystem. Dedicated to the conservation of the upper Gulf of California and surrounding Desierto Sonorense, CEDO has a visitor center where is hosts free natural-history talks in English at 2pm Tuesdays and 4pm Saturdays. CEDO also runs a fascinating program of nature tours, some in collaboration with local cooperatives.

Tours include tidepool walks (US$15), kayaking on Morua stuary (US$50), snorkeling trips to Isla San Jorge (US$115) and excursions to El Pinacate Bisophere Reserve with an English-speaking naturalist (US$60).

Puerto Penasco CEDO offers plenty of activities, and welcomes people of all ages to take part in hands-on learning. You and your family can learn more about the entire ecosystem from CEDO’s very knowledgeable staff through slide presentations, tours, talks, and walks through the desert sand.

Join us to explore, understand, and protect the natural resources and cultures of the Sonoran Desert and Sea of Cortez. Our mission is: to bring together people, knowledge and solutions for vibrant communities and resilient ecossytems in the northern Gulf of California… and beyond.

Since its inception in 2000, CEDO’s field education intership has provided interns with “direct experience of the ‘heart and spirit’ of CEDO’s mission” as well as practical experience in outdoor education. Interns also benefit from interactions with CEDO staff, and visiting students and researchers. One former intern raves about the “opportunity to immerse myself in the absolutely gorgeous landscape of the Sea of Cortez”.
